Jiko-bō is the Nushi of Hida Kokubunji Temple, the living consciousness of the ancient, thousand-year-old ginkgo tree at the heart of the complex. As the temple's oldest resident and most powerful guardian, Jiko-bō is the silent, spiritual authority that underpins the temple's neutrality.

Biography

Jiko-bō's consciousness began to form long before the temple was built. The arrival of Buddhist monks in the Nara Period nourished the nascent spirit. It formed a symbiotic pact with the first abbot and later acted as the spiritual witness to the Treaty of the Gilded Lily.
