Gishiki (Rituals)

A Note from the Scribe

Magic is not a gift; it is a transaction. The Gishiki recorded here are the receipts of deals made with forces beyond mortal comprehension. Whether you seek to cross the veil, bind a spirit, or merely survive the night, remember that every ritual exacts a toll. The words must be precise, the offerings sufficient, and the intent unwavering. The spirits do not offer refunds to the careless. — Haku'jin, Chronicler of the West

Traversal & Transportation

These rituals are concerned with movement across the veil that separates the mortal world from the spirit realms.

Rite of the Ripple

The fundamental rite for crossing the Barrier between the Mundane World and Kakuriyo. It uses a reflective surface like a mirror or still water as a doorway, allowing the user to step through their own reflection.

Rite of The Jade Dissolution Walk

A complex, high-risk ritual of translocation. The caster dissolves their physical form to traverse the dangerous spirit realm of Kakuriyo as a being of pure spirit-matter, leaving behind a jade anchor that ensures their ability to re-materialize.

Glitch-Walking

A modern technique used by the denizens of The Iron Forest. It involves using technology to broadcast frequencies that force a path through digital spirit domains, effectively hacking the Spirit World.

Purification & Pacification

These rites are focused on cleansing corruption, calming turbulent spirits, and managing one's own inner darkness.

Chinkon-sai (Spirit Pacification)

A Shinto-based purification rite used by the Council of Yamato. Unlike violent exorcisms, it seeks to calm a turbulent spirit (Aragami) back into a peaceful state (Nigimitama), ending a haunting without combat and often receiving a boon in return.

Rite of The Still Water Heart

A meditative ritual of spiritual cultivation exclusive to Kikon-jin. It allows the user to temporarily suppress the influence of their inner Akuryo by creating a state of profound spiritual stillness that the chaotic entity cannot inhabit.

Rite of Anchoring

A universal survival rite used to establish a safe zone in the shifting chaos of the Spirit World, preventing the caster from being swept away by spiritual currents.

Paper-Door Seal

A warding rite used by the Council of Yamato. It employs Ofuda (paper charms) to lock breaches between worlds, sealing spirits out or trapping them within a specific area.

Binding & Diplomacy

These rituals govern interaction with spiritual entities, whether through force or formal protocol.

The Iron Circle

A rite of domination favored by the Western Dynasties. It creates a metaphysical cage of cold iron that cuts a spirit off from the flow of Chi, starving it into submission for interrogation or draining.

Rite of the Offering

A universal protocol for interacting with spirits. By burning offerings like spirit money or incense, the user provides the spirit with sustenance in the form of essence, which can buy information, safe passage, or minor favors.

Writ of Passage

A bureaucratic ritual used by the Celestial Court. It treats the Spirit World as a vast administration, using formal "paperwork" burned as an offering to secure a celestial visa, guaranteeing safe passage through a spirit's domain.
