Rite of the Offering

Type: Universal / Diplomacy Duration: 5 Minutes Components: Paper money (Spirit Money), Food (Rice/Sake), or Incense.

Description

A standard protocol for interacting with the spirits of Kakuriyo or the Gokusotsu of Jigoku. Spirits crave the essence of physical objects, which they cannot obtain themselves.

Visual Manifestation

  1. The user burns the paper money or incense.
  2. The smoke does not dissipate; it coils and solidifies into the "Spirit Form" of the offering (e.g., golden coins, spectral rice).
  3. The spirit consumes the smoke/essence, visibly growing brighter or calmer.

Mechanics

  • Effect: Grants a temporary bonus to social interactions with spirits. Can buy information, safe passage, or minor favors.
  • Risk: Offering too little can insult a powerful spirit. Offering too much can attract "Beggars" (Hungry Ghosts) who will swarm the user.
